Folks enjoy storing digital passes in their phone’s wallet and they are so used to it that now they find it frustrating when they have to use a different app or, even worse, a saved PDF.
Google Wallet’s New AI Feature: Seamlessly Create and Manage Digital Passes
Much to the fortune and blessed times, Android users now have a better option thanks to a new feature in Google Wallet that uses AI to generate a digital version of a pass with all the relevant details, making it as convenient as any other digital pass.
Google, in its I/O conference in May, announced this feature which replaces the old “Photo” option in the “Add to Wallet” menu, which only created a basic pass with a barcode or QR code.
The new option, called “Everything Else,” can help users avoid digging through their email for a PDF while waiting in line or navigating a healthcare provider’s app to retrieve an insurance card.
Google Wallet’s generated passes cover a broad range of categories, including business cards, IDs, library cards, loyalty cards, passports, and vehicle registration, though it is currently available only in the US.
How to Use Google Wallet’s “Everything Else” Feature for Digital Passes
When selecting “Everything Else,” the app requests permission to use Google’s AI to process the user’s sensitive information and categorize it, such as a private pass, health pass, or driver’s license. Users can then take a picture of the pass, and after it is processed, adjust any details or categories that seem incorrect before approving the final version.
The instructions for the use of this feature, which was rolled out earlier this month, has been published by the company.
While Emma Roth has it on her Galaxy Note 20, it has not yet appeared on their Pixel 6, but it is expected to become available on more devices soon.
