Google is expanding its suite of productivity tools with the introduction of Vids, a collaborative video creation app aimed at streamlining the process of making shareable videos for work-related tasks. Unlike traditional video editing software, Vids is designed to be intuitive, allowing users to assemble video content similar to creating a presentation in Google Slides.
Streamlining Video Creation for Work
Vids enables users to compile assets from Google Drive and other sources into a left-to-right timeline, where they can add voiceovers or film themselves to create a finished video. The app also integrates Google’s Gemini AI, which can assist in generating a storyboard, writing scripts, and even creating images for the video. With a library of stock video and audio, users have access to a wide range of resources to enhance their Vids.
Facilitating Collaboration and Sharing
Similar to other Google productivity tools, Vids supports collaboration by allowing users to share videos with others, who can then comment, leave notes, and edit the content. The app aims to promote seamless collaboration by offering features familiar to users of Google’s other collaboration apps, such as Google Docs and Google Sheets.
Despite being a late entrant to the market, Google hopes to capitalize on the growing demand for video-centric communication in the era of remote work.
