Commercial Flights At Navi Mumbai International Airport Starts April 17, 2025

A Momentous Achievement

The landing was overseen by senior representatives from key agencies, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India, Customs, Immigration, and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL). Speaking on the occasion, Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, called the event a “momentous day,” emphasizing that NMIA will offer world-class facilities while driving regional development.

Jeet Adani, Director at the Adani Group, celebrated the achievement, stating that NMIA is poised to become a “gateway to goodness.”

Preparing for Operational Excellence

The validation test serves as a critical step toward NMIA receiving an aerodrome license. This certification validates the airport’s Instrument Approach Procedures, ensuring safety and operational readiness.

  • Pre-validation preparations: Flight calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) were conducted successfully.
  • Next steps: Data from the validation flight will enable the DGCA to approve NMIA’s aerodrome license and publish its flight procedures in the Electronic Aeronautical Information Publication.

Development Highlights

The airport, developed under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, is set to boost India’s aviation infrastructure. Key details include:

  • Initial Capacity: 20 million passengers annually, with cargo handling of 8 lakh tonnes.
  • Future Expansion: Capacity to handle over 90 million passengers per year.

Building Toward the Future

NMIA represents a massive leap in India’s aviation sector, blending cutting-edge facilities with regional development initiatives. With its initial phase nearing completion, Navi Mumbai’s greenfield airport is set to redefine connectivity and passenger experience for millions.
