Apple, renowned for its innovation, has notably abstained from the foldable smartphone market. However, recent reports hint at a potential shift as Apple accelerates production of its first foldable devices.

Apple's Foldable Phone Will Launch By This Date: Markets Abuzz With A New Hope!

Mass Production of 20.3-inch Foldable

A new report suggests that Apple is gearing up for mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device, blurring the lines between MacBook and iPad, potentially entering the market by late 2025.

Apple’s Two-Pronged Strategy

Analyst Jeff Pu suggests that Apple may employ a two-pronged strategy, with the first device being the large 20.3-inch foldable bridging the gap between MacBook and iPad, followed by a foldable iPhone as early as late 2026.

Foldable iPhone Specs and Patent

Apple is considering two potential screen sizes for the foldable iPhone: 7.9 inches and 8.3 inches, as revealed by a patent filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in October.

Growth Trajectory of Foldable Market

Despite a slight decline in the overall smartphone market, the foldable segment experienced a remarkable 64% year-on-year increase in Q1 2023, with projections estimating the market to reach $131.34 billion by 2030.

Apple’s Upcoming “Let Loose” Event

Amidst speculations on foldable devices, Apple’s upcoming event on May 7th is expected to unveil new iPads and accessories, including upgraded iPad Pro models with OLED displays and a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air.

Potential Impacts on Market Dynamics

Apple’s entry into the foldable device market could challenge existing players like Samsung and Motorola, prompting innovation and enhancing consumer choices.
