Apple May Drop ‘ID’ From Identity, Adopt ‘Account’ Tag
Apple is allegedly intending to overhaul the branding of its 12-year old Apple ID platform to ‘Apple Account’ before 2024 wraps up, marking disappearance of the familiar ‘ID’ term associated commonly with accessing Apple’s ecosystem spanning iCloud, payments, subscriptions and more.
While the @me.com name itself evolved in 2011 from older labels, the nominal structure persisted. It is now speculated to get replaced fully.
Functional Shift Unlikely, Name Only
The Apple Account rebrand per unverified sources is tipped to launch along upcoming iOS 18 and macOS 15 towards end-2024. However, it seems currently unlikely for the relabeling away from widely known Apple ID phrasing to alter actual functioning.
Experts opine the company is streamlining branding as Apple Account fits modern identity standards followed by rivals as well. But adjustments to the reliable architecture powering Apple ID itself are improbable.
Rebrand timed alongside next iOS/macOS – rumor
Nonetheless, vanishing of the intrinsic Apple ID tag risks some transitional unease given its entrenchment over years among vast iPhone and Mac user bases worldwide that continuously leverage it access Apple’s diverse ecosystem.
