Amazon has announced another round of layoffs, this time affecting a small number of roles in its communications department. This move aligns with CEO Andy Jassy’s broader efforts to streamline operations and reduce bureaucracy since taking over from Jeff Bezos in 2021.

Amazon’s Ongoing Workforce Reduction

The latest layoffs come as part of a review of the company’s communications and corporate responsibility division. Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser confirmed that these job cuts were necessary to improve efficiency, increase ownership, and strengthen corporate culture. He also stated that Amazon remains committed to supporting affected employees during this transition.

Previous Layoffs and Cost-Cutting Measures

Amazon’s most significant job cuts occurred in 2022 when 27,000 corporate employees lost their jobs across multiple departments. Since then, the company has continued targeted layoffs, affecting various teams. The latest cuts in the communications department are part of Amazon’s ongoing cost-cutting strategy.

In addition to job reductions, Amazon has implemented a return-to-office mandate requiring corporate employees to work from the office five days a week. While some view this as a way to encourage voluntary resignations, CEO Andy Jassy maintains that it is intended to strengthen Amazon’s corporate culture.
