Here is a major piece of good news for mobile phone users as the Telecom Regulatory calls-Authority of India (TRAI) has decided to modify the calling regulations.
Modification In Calling Regulations
TRAI will establish a filter to curb new-spam calls and SMS’, under these new introduces-rules.
Further, the TRAI has directed all firms to install artificial intelligence spam-filters in their phone call and message services.
This new regulation may come into effect from May 1.
It seems that TRAI has asked all telecom companies to implement call and message filters before May 1, as per this new regulation.
According to them, this filter helps in protecting users from fake calls and messages.
TRAI Working On Curbing Spam or Bogus Calls
The telecom authority has been working for a long time on the curb of spam or bogus calls.
The authority is further planning to frame rules to stop counterfeit calls and messages.
TRAI has demanded to stop promotional calls made on 10-digit mobile numbers as part of this initiative.
Besides this, TRAI has also brought the caller ID feature, in which the name and photo of the caller will be displayed.

Prior to this, Indian telecom giant Airtel announced that it would offer these AI filters.
Other telecom service providers like Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio also revealed plans to set up AI filters for bogus calls and messages.
Presently, these two firms are in talks with the Truecaller app.
Although, they are refraining from implementing the caller ID feature as it may cause privacy issues.
Earlier, TRAI directed all telecom service providers during February to re-verify registered headers and message templates on distributed ledger technologies (DLT) platform and block all unverified headers and message templates within 30 and 60 days, respectively.
