Apple is preparing to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a major shift in the company’s approach to laptop design. The upcoming models are expected to combine touch-enabled OLED displays with Apple’s traditional keyboard and trackpad, bringing a feature long associated with Windows laptops to the MacBook lineup.

Apple has announced a product event called “Pro and tell” in Los Angeles for October 28, 2026. The launch is expected to include the redesigned MacBook Pro models alongside other Mac and iPad updates.

First MacBook Pro With a Touchscreen

The new MacBook Pro is expected to feature an OLED touchscreen, replacing the mini-LED display technology used in current high-end models. OLED screens can deliver deeper blacks, stronger contrast and vibrant colours, potentially benefiting photographers, video editors and other creative professionals.

Apple is reportedly developing 14-inch and 16-inch versions. The laptops are expected to retain their familiar overall design while becoming thinner and lighter.

Touch input will reportedly complement rather than replace the keyboard and trackpad. This would allow users to switch between conventional computer controls and direct interaction with on-screen elements when convenient.

Dynamic Island Could Replace the Display Notch

Another anticipated change is the introduction of a Dynamic Island-style interface on the MacBook Pro. Instead of the existing display notch, the new design is expected to use a smaller camera cut-out surrounded by a software interface.

The Dynamic Island could display contextual information and interactive elements, similar to the feature introduced on Apple’s iPhone Pro models.

Bloomberg reports also suggest that macOS will receive interface adjustments designed for touch interaction. Menus and controls could adapt depending on whether a user interacts with the screen using a finger or navigates with a mouse or trackpad.

Which Processor Will Power the New MacBooks?

The touchscreen MacBook Pro models are expected to use Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, rather than waiting for a future generation of chips.

Apple is also expected to introduce a lower-end MacBook Pro powered by an M6 chip. A refreshed iMac and an updated iPad mini with a sharper display are among the other products reportedly planned for the October launch.

The distinction is important: the touchscreen models and the new M6-powered MacBook Pro are expected to be separate product updates.

Will the Touchscreen MacBook Pro Cost More?

The move to OLED technology and the additional touchscreen hardware could make the new models more expensive than their predecessors.

Reports suggest that US starting prices could increase by several hundred dollars, potentially reaching as much as $500 more for some configurations. Apple has not confirmed the final prices, Indian launch details or complete specifications.

If the reports prove accurate, the touchscreen MacBook Pro will represent one of the most significant changes to Apple’s laptop experience in years. Its success will depend on whether touch controls offer meaningful advantages for everyday productivity and professional workflows.

Summary: Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro on October 28, 2026. The 14-inch and 16-inch models are tipped to feature OLED displays, a Dynamic Island-style interface and touch-optimised macOS controls while retaining keyboards and trackpads. The launch may also include an M6-powered MacBook Pro, a refreshed iMac and a redesigned iPad mini. Pricing and Indian availability remain unconfirmed.
