India’s SUV Showdown – 5 Hot New Mid-Size SUVs Hitting the Market Soon

In this article, we take a look at five upcoming mid-size SUVs set to debut in India soon.

  1. Tata Sierra – The highly anticipated Tata Sierra was launched on the 25th November. The exterior as well as interior design on the home-grown carmaker has also been revealed, highlighting the first-ever triple-screen layout for the brand. The ICE version of the Sierra will likely be powered by a new 1.5 tGDi petrol, 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5 turbo diesel engine, available with manual and automatic gearbox options. An all-electric Sierra is also on the way, scheduled to debut in January 2026.
  • Tata Harrier – Tata Motors is set to launch the petrol variant of the Harrier on 9th December. Featuring the new 1.5-litre tGDi petrol engine from the ‘Hyperion’ series that was debuted with the Tata Sierra at the 2023 Auto Expo, this 4-cylinder turbo-petrol direct-injection engine is expected to deliver around 170 hp and 280 Nm of peak torque. While the rest of Harrier’s features and design remain unchanged, the transmission will come in both, manual as well as automatic.
  • Tata Safari Petrol – Alongside the Harrier, the petrol version of the Tata Safari will also be launched on December 9. Just like Harrier, it shall be powered by a 1.5-litre tGDi Hyperion petrol engine, producing an estimated 170 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include both manual and automatic options. Other than the engine update, the Safari will retain its current design, features, and overall package.
  • Mahindra XEV 9S – Mahindra is set to launch its all-new 7-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S, on November 27. Essentially the electric version of the XUV700, the three-row SUV will sit alongside the XEV 9e and feature similar interiors, including a triple-screen setup and a sliding middle-row seat. Built on the INGLO platform, it will likely use 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs and come standard with rear-wheel drive.
  • Marui Suzuki e Vitara – India’s biggest automaker’s first electric car, e Vitara, will be launched in the Indian market on 2nd December. First showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo in  its production-ready guise, the electric SUV’s manufacturing has already commenced at the brand’s Hansalpur, Gujarat-based facility. The car will come with 2 battery pack options, i.e. 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with the latter claiming a range of around 500 kilometres on a single charge. The India-spec model is expected to get a single motor front-wheel drive configuration.

Summary

Tata Motors is all the forefront of mid-size SUV wave, with the all-new Sierra launching on November 25, followed by petrol variants of the Harrier and Safari on December 9. Mahindra’s 7-seater electric XEV 9S and Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara are set for November 27 and December 2 launches, respectively.
