If you are an Android user, you should know that Google will now start counting WhatsApp backups against your allocated cloud storage limit.

3 Easy Steps To Reduce Whatsapp Backup Size On Android, iPhones

On a similar note, iCloud storage limits are applied to WhatsApp backups for iPhone users.

Read on to find out all the details!

Google To Count WhatsApp Backup Against Allocated Cloud Storage Limit

Google now counts backups from WhatsApp against the maximum amount of cloud storage that Android users are allowed to have.

As per reports, particularly for those with massive data sets exceeding 15 GB, the Google Drive storage limit is exceeded.

For iPhone users, the amount of storage in iCloud is only 5 GB without an iCloud+ subscription.

Steps To Take To Conserve Cloud Storage Space

Here are a few actions that WhatsApp users can take to conserve cloud storage space.

  • Unwanted multimedia cannot be included in backups if auto media download is disabled. “Good morning” and “good evening” wishes in multimedia can add up and take up a lot of storage space, which can be deleted.
  • Reducing the size of the chat backup can be achieved by excluding videos. To do this, disable the “include videos” option in the WhatsApp backup menu.
  • The HD media option adds to larger backup sizes by preserving high-resolution images and videos.
  • Disappearing messages on WhatsApp can be enabled to further reduce backup size by automatically deleting media and messages after a predetermined amount of time. This feature can be turned on for individual chats or for all contacts.

Buying Cloud Storage

Users might need to buy more cloud storage if they have sensitive data and multimedia on WhatsApp.

Google One provides 100 GB of cloud storage as part of a basic plan that costs Rs 130 per month. The 50 GB cloud storage plan included with the basic iCloud+ subscription costs less at Rs 75 per month.

Another alternative would be the Rs 219 a month plan by iCloud+, wherein, users are also provided with a 200 GB plan that can be shared with friends and family. For users who require additional storage and have a substantial amount of WhatsApp data, these subscription plans provide an option.
