Google is introducing a new feature for Android users to make file sharing easier. With the latest Google Play Services update (version 24.49.33), users can now share files via QR codes through Quick Share. This update is available worldwide, enhancing the intuitiveness and ease of file transfers.

3 Billion Android Users Can Now Share Data Via QR Code: How "Quick Share" Works?

Google’s New QR Code Feature Simplifies File Sharing on Android

The process is straightforward and user-friendly. After selecting the Quick Share option from your phone’s share menu, a fullscreen interface opens. A new “Use QR code” option appears under the “Send to nearby devices” section. By tapping this, a unique QR code with the Quick Share logo will appear. To receive the file, the recipient simply needs to open their camera app, scan the QR code, and the file transfer will start automatically without any additional steps.

What makes this update stand out is its simplicity. There’s no need to add contacts, verify devices, or adjust settings; it works immediately, offering a quick and effortless file transfer. Moreover, the QR code can be scanned by multiple devices, making it ideal for sharing the same file with several people, such as event photos or documents. This feature also addresses common issues where Quick Share struggles to detect nearby devices, a frustration that many Android users have encountered.

Google Expands QR Code File Sharing to All Android Devices

As part of Google’s December 2024 Feature Bundle, this QR code option enhances Android’s versatility. While Quick Share itself isn’t new, the addition of QR code support increases its reliability. Samsung users may be familiar with this feature, as their Galaxy devices have had QR code-based sharing via Samsung Quick Share for a while. However, Google’s update now extends this capability to all Android phones, not just Samsung devices.
