A groundbreaking shift in India’s transportation infrastructure is underway as the 1,386-kilometer Delhi-Mumbai Expressway nears completion. Recently, a major section near Kota in Rajasthan has opened, drastically reducing travel time between Gurugram in Haryana and Vadodara in Gujarat from over 20 hours to just 10.

Engineered for high-speed travel up to 120 kmph, the expressway offers massive reductions in both travel time and fuel costs. Once completed, the total journey from Delhi to Mumbai will take only 12 hours compared to the current 24 hours via NH-48. This leap in efficiency supports not just commuters but also commercial logistics across six states.

The expressway runs through Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. With an estimated cost of ₹95,000 crore, it stands as a symbol of modern engineering, stretching longer than any highway in the country. Designed to ease pressure off NH-48, it will serve as a parallel lifeline for one of India’s busiest corridors.
Green, Safe, and Wildlife-Friendly
One of the most commendable aspects of the project is its eco-conscious approach. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has incorporated green technologies and taken special steps to safeguard wildlife, especially near the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve. Features include dedicated animal crossings, noise barriers, and tunnels to maintain ecological balance.
