Hyundai, the South Korean automaker, has initiated the production of its latest compact SUV, the EXTER, at its advanced manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, as announced on Friday. The assembly line at the factory in Sriperumbudur, located approximately 45 km west of Chennai, witnessed the rollout of a ‘Ranger-Khaki’ colored EXTER vehicle from Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL).

Unsoo Kim, the Managing Director and CEO of the company, expressed Hyundai’s commitment to establishing industry-leading manufacturing processes that ensure product excellence and bring delight to their valued customers. The state-of-the-art production facility of HMIL leverages Industry 4.0 automation, integrating over 700 4th generation robots alongside a highly skilled workforce to deliver exceptional mobility experiences.
Kim stated that the Hyundai EXTER marks the company’s entry into a new segment, further strengthening their position as a comprehensive SUV manufacturer. The launch of the EXTER is scheduled for July 10th and will offer various features, including a smart electric sunroof and an inbuilt dashcam with dual cameras.
The EXTER will also boast an extensive range of connectivity options, with over 60 connected features through BLUELINK technology, establishing it as the most connected SUV in its segment. Hyundai currently offers 12 car models across different segments and operates 1,348 sales points and 1,515 service points nationwide. In addition to serving the domestic market, the company exports its vehicles to 85 countries.
