CCTVs Worth Rs. 705 Crores To Be Installed in 15000 Coaches
In a large order worth Rs 705 crore, the railway ministry will install CCTVs inside nearly 15,000 coaches.
As per reports, this will include 14,387 coaches of premium trains such as Rajdhani, Duronto, and Shatabdi, as well as passenger trains such as EMU, MEMU, and DEMU, and will cover trains across the country.
Last year, the ministry informed Parliament that CCTVs had been installed on approximately 2,930 rail coaches. As a result, the current order will be nearly five times larger.
The Railways intends to cover all 60,000-odd coaches with CCTV surveillance on doorways, vestibule areas, and aisle areas, ensuring that no one’s privacy is violated.
CCTVs To Come With Video Analytics And Facial Recognition Systems
These IP-based CCTVs will also include video analytics and facial recognition systems. They will allow coaches to be operated and monitored remotely from RPF posts, divisional and zonal headquarters. Each coach must have at least two panic buttons, and pressing them will alert the nearest RPF post or data center.
As per reports, “The system implemented shall act as a tool to respond to situations and incidents effectively, aiding faster decision making and act as a great learning for better preparedness to meet any incident and eventualities.”
The railways want CCTV systems installed inside coaches to help with facial recognition and unambiguous identification of the target person by providing high-resolution images. Facial recognition is desired in low-light conditions, particularly in the aisle area of the coaches at night.
The system should also be able to withstand shocks and vibrations, according to the railways. CCTV cameras are installed in all new trains, including the Vande Bharat and Tejas.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, the Railway Protection Force registered nearly 4.24 lakh cases in 2021.
