Skoda has introduced its latest sub-compact SUV, the Skoda Kylaq, in India, with the goal of securing a substantial share of the competitive SUV market. Remarkably, within just 10 days of opening official bookings, the Kylaq has garnered over 10,000 bookings, averaging about 1,000 per day. This achievement is especially significant for an SUV priced from ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the brand’s most affordable offering in India.
“Skoda Kylaq: A New Contender in the Sub-Compact SUV Segment”
Competing in the sub-compact SUV segment, the Skoda Kylaq faces tough rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 300, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger. Deliveries are set to begin on January 27 next year, and the SUV will also be showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. It is being produced at Skoda’s Chakan plant in India.
The Skoda Kylaq follows the brand’s ‘Modern Solid’ design philosophy and shares its platform with the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia. Its exterior is highlighted by LED headlamps, short overhangs, and LED taillights. Inside, the cabin mirrors the Kushaq, offering six-way electrically adjustable seats, ventilated front seats, and leatherette upholstery. The SUV also features a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, and a boot capacity of 446 liters, which expands to 1,265 liters with the rear seats folded down.
“Skoda Kylaq: Powertrain and Performance Features”
The Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 113 bhp and 179 Nm of torque. It comes with two transmission options: a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed torque converter automatic. This engine is also featured in the Skoda Kushaq 1.0 TSI variant. Unlike its competitors, the Kylaq is offered exclusively with a petrol powertrain, with no diesel or CNG options available.
