Yes, you read that right! Leading smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi, has already kicked off the initial processes of acquiring a patent.

Xiaomi To Launch Electric Cars By Next Year
Unlike India, Xiaomi in China already offers a wide range of products apart from smartphones and accessories. Given companies are jumping in to build cars for the future, Xiaomi also wants a piece of the cake.
Before releasing its first electric vehicle, Xiaomi submitted numerous patent applications and received some grants. Even though Xiaomi was just starting out, it was said that they were close to starting production.
By signing a cooperation agreement with Xiaomi on November 27 of last year, the Administrative Committee of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone formally announced the establishment of Xiaomi Car in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone.
Xiaomi Motors Registered in Beijing
Xiaomi Motors was also registered in Beijing on September 1 of last year, and the first factory will be constructed there.
Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, will have a big influence on how the new electric car is run. In the first half of 2024, it’s anticipated that the new vehicle will officially start mass production.
Lei Jun claims that testing of Xiaomi’s self-driving technology has already started. The first 140 test vehicles will be deployed across the nation in 2024, according to plans.
The Xiaomi Auto team is expected to use self-developed autonomous driving technology, and it is anticipated that the starting price of the upcoming EV will exceed 40,000 USD.
