As we all know, 5G has recently been launched in India. And the download speeds on this 5G network have breached 500 Mbps, as revealed by internet testing firm Ookla.
The leader in 5G network testing is Reliance Jio, with a speed of 598.58 Mbps and Bharti Airtel recorded 197.98 Mbps.

Internet Testing Firm Ookla Reveals 5G Network Testing Speeds Cross 500 Mbps
According to the most recent data from internet testing company Ookla, download speeds on the 5G test network in India have hit 500 Mbps, with Reliance Jio leading with 598.58 Mbps and rival Bharti Airtel recording 197.98 Mbps in Delhi.
The study revealed that prior to the launch on October 1, telecom operators had been testing their networks. As per the study, 5G download speeds lie anything between 16.27 Mbps and 809.94 Mbps, which shows that telecom operators are still fine-tuning their networks.
Sylwia Kechiche, principal industry analyst, enterprise at Ookla stated, “We expect these speeds to be more stable moving forward as these networks will enter the commercial stage.”
Reliance Jio Outperforming Airtel, Median Download Speed 515.38 Mbps
Since June 2022, the company has recorded 5G download speeds in four metrocities, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Varanasi.
In Mumbai, Jio outperformed Airtel, with a median download speed of 515.38 Mbps compared to 271.07 Mbps for the former. The pair’s varying speeds, though, were greatest in Kolkata.
As per the report, Jio had a download speed of 482.02 Mbps, which was substantially quicker than the average download speed of 33.83 Mbps for Airtel.
In Varanasi, however, Jio and Airtel came closer to parity. Since June, Airtel has been able to download content at a median 5G speed of 516.57 Mbps, compared to Jio’s 485.22 Mbps. According to Ookla, India’s mobile download speed in August 2022 was 13.52 Mbps, placing it 117th in the world.
