Another set of sleeping pods has been set up by the Indian Railways at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in South Mumbai, complete with high end faclities to offer better accomodation for passengers. 

The pictures of the pods were shared by the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw on social media. 

Second Pod Hotel Opens At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai

There are currently 40 sleeping pods at the facility, which is next to the C.S.T. railway station’s waiting area. These are divided among 30 single pods, four family pods, and six double pods. The pods will be able to accommodate 50 people.

Along with these, the pods also have been equipped with  intercom, mobile charging facilities, deluxe toilets, locker rooms, fire alarms, separate washrooms, shower rooms for women and men as well as a luggage room for the passengers.

Passengers will be able to book a pod by going to the station’s reception or through an app. 

The needs of business travellers on a tight budget have been taken into consideration while determining the lodging costs. A single bed in a sleeping pod would cost a minimum of Rs 499 for a 12-hour period.

Pod Accommodations To Bring In Rs 55.68 Lakh Revenue

Namah Enterprises was given a five-year lease to operate and develop the sleeping pods with a a payment of Rs 10,07,786 to the Indian Railways. The facility’s operations are projected to bring in about Rs 55.68 lakh in revenue for the company. The facility has also been given a 131.61 square metre space by the railway authority.

In November 2021, India’s first pod hotel located in Mumbai Central railway station was inaugurated. This pod is located on the first floor of the station building and occupies an area of approximately 3000 square feet.

It was developed in partnership with Urbanpod, India’s first and only pod hotel company on a revenue-share model. It is open to rail passengers and the general public. 

It consists of 48 capsule-like rooms categorised into classic pods, private pods and separate pods for women and the differently-abled. There are 30 classic pods, 7 ladies only, 10 private pods and one for differently-abled passengers.

The tariff for 12 hours is Rs 999 and for 24 hours it is Rs 1,999 for these pods. The rate for a private pod for a 12-hour period is Rs 1,249 and for 24 hours it is Rs 2,499.
