No More Russia? Indian IT Firms Stop Russian Operations: What’s The Future Now For IT Industry?

Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine that started almost 2 months ago, Indian IT companies have started moving out of these war affected regions.

IT giants like Infosys has moved its operations in Russia to outside the country, while Tata Consultancy Services is in the process of helping clients affected in the geopolitical tension decouple their operations and supply chains.

Indian IT Companies Retreating from Russia

The Bengaluru-based IT giant Infosys Ltd has been moving its operations out from the war inflicted Russia, given its invasion of Ukraine and geopolitical tension.

At the same time, the company is helping clients maintain continuity in business by shifting work to different locations outside Russia.

“We have less than 100 employees in Russia. We do no work with any Russian clients as of today and have no plans of going ahead”, said the chief executive and managing director of the company, Salil Parekh.

India’s largest IT company TCS has also voiced its views and actions in relation to the Russia-Ukraine crisis and its impact on clients in the area as well as their growth.

The company has no operations in Russia or Ukraine, thus no direct impact of the war on the company’s operations.

The company’s chief executive and managing director, Rajesh Gopinathan said, “We are, however, very engaged in the process to see how we can help our clients who have been impacted by it in their BCP (business continuity planning) operations (by the Russia-Ukraine conflict). We are also trying to help our customers who are trying to decouple their operations and supply chains.”

“A lot of people have migrated out of Ukraine to countries like Poland and Hungary. So, people are asking for jobs which gives us an opportunity to increase local hiring there”, Gopinath added.
