iOS 15.4 Beta Update: Users Will Unlock iPhones While Wearing Mask! FaceID Revamped?

We all are aware that Apple is widely considered as the number one innovative company in the world. The company created game-changing innovations such as the iPod, iTunes, iPhone, and iPad. The company is also known for being one of the pioneering companies to inculcate the facial recognition technology in it for unlocking the phone.

But now after the onslaught of the pandemic, the situations all over the world have changed. Now we move around with faces covered with masks. So in that condition, unlocking your phone with mask-covered faces becomes impossible.

But as always Apple is working on a solution for this problem.

Soon, you might be able to unlock your iPhone with your mask on

According to reports, Apple is testing a feature that will let users use Face ID to unlock the phone even when they are wearing a mask. The new feature is being added in the beta version of iOS 15.4 beta. This feature will allow Face ID to be used with a mask and without an Apple Watch for authentication.

The company claims that the feature can “recognize the unique features around the eye” for authentication purposes. For enabling this feature, you will need to rescan your face for Face ID. From there, Face ID will be able to unlock your iPhone even when you’re wearing a mask.

In Settings, there’s a new “Use Face ID with a Mask” toggle that can be turned on or off if you change your mind about the mask. The company has also added a new feature called “Add Glasses” to make Face ID more accurate when you’re wearing glasses and a mask at the same time.

Still, the Face ID feature is most accurate only when Full-Face recognition is on

It should be noted that Apple has warned that the Face ID is “most accurate” when it’s set up for full-face recognition only. For Face ID with a mask to work, you must be looking at your device to get it to unlock. The feature does not work when wearing sunglasses.

Face ID with a mask can authenticate Apple Pay payments. It can also be used instead of login and password in apps that support Face ID.

Notably, the new Face ID with a mask feature requires an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 model, and it is not available for users who have the iPhone 11 at this time.
