After inducing a massive and deadly second wave of the pandemic in India by the Delta strain, things started to get back on track when again a new variant of the virus called omicron was detected.
Reportedly, the Omicron variant spreads much faster than its predecessor.
It has already started making its mark in the country as there is a recording of an increased number of cases at present.
Now, returning to normal life seems somewhat impossible considering the scenario.
Bleak Chances For Return To Office
Earlier many IT sector companies were preparing for the return of employees to their office spaces.
For instance, IT firms such as TCS, Infosys and HCL Technologies had expressed their intention to call employees back to their offices as the second wave was in the process of subsiding.
But, with Omicron in motion, returning to normal life seems to have bleak chances.
Besides this, the health ministry has also advised companies to not call back their employees and implement the work from the home regime as much as possible.
In response, most of the IT sector companies have already expressed their motives to continue the work from home routine.
Cautious IT Firms
Some of the senior executives have confirmed that they are now being cautious about their back-to-office plans amid virus threats.
Recently, IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which is also India’s largest IT major in the workforce, has informed that less than 10 percent of the company’s employees are working from their offices currently.
Further, its plans for a full-fledged return to office will be a calibrated move.
Considering the “changing health situation”, Infosys, the Bengaluru-based IT major, has said that it has “taken a cautious approach”.
Earlier, the N.R. Narayana Murthy-owned company expressed that it would bring back its employees to the office.
Similarly, HCL Technologies had the same plans and now seemed to be cautious.
The IT giant said that it “will continue to monitor the emergence and impact of Covid-19 variants which could limit the movement of employees.”
So now, the company intends to follow the current hybrid model that has been in motion now, where a tenth of its workforce is working from the office.
