The seventh-generation Suzuki Wagon R is arriving in December.
The tall-riding hatchback enjoys popularity not just in India but also in Suzuki’s homeland of Japan.

Launch
While here it is in its 3rd generation, the JDM-spec version has been through six generations.
The latest iteration debuted four years ago in Japan, but will debut worldwide around December.
Architecture
It will continue to sit on the lightweight HEARTECT platform albeit with some structural updates for enhanced safety.
The platform also assures improved driving dynamics and handling.
Appearance
The new-gen update features a thoroughly revised exterior and interior featuring a host of enhancements inside and out.
Appearance wise, it retains its tall pillars but now with more curvy elements which should allow for improved aerodynamics.
It is flanked by black B-pillars, body-colored ORVMs, and multi-spoke alloy wheels which further elevates its design.
The rear features a window washer, defogger, and updated tail lamps.
Redesigned Features
The following exterior features receive a makeover:
- Sculpted bonnet
- Single chrome-slat grille
- New headlamps
Color Variants
The color variants of the JDM-spec Suzuki Wagon R are:
- Active Yellow
- Phoenix Red Pearl
- Blisk Blue Metallic
- Urban Brown Pearl Metallic
- Blueish Black Pearl
- Moonlight Violet Pearl Metallic
The only options in India at the moment are black or beige.
Interiors
The interior features new upholstery, an updated steering wheel, automatic climate control, and parking sensors.
It also comes with an Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connected touchscreen infotainment system.
Safety
Safety features comprise:
- Lane departure warning system
- Stagger warning function
- High beam assist
- 360 camera
- Head-up display
- Emergency stop signal
- Hill hold control
- Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags.
- Electronic Stability Programme
Powertrain
It is powered by a three-cylinder inline R06D petrol engine incorporated with new technologies like cooled EGR and rapid combustion.
Transmission options include a five-speed manual gearbox as well as an automatic (CVT).
It will introduce Improvements for the mild-hybrid variant’s powertrain as well.
Pricing, Competition
Pricing will be revealed only upon launch but the going rate in Japan is JPY 1,421,200 (roughly Rs. 9.49 lakh).
Toyota is also working on a rival to the Wagon R.
It is called the Daihatsu Move which will be underpinned by the DNGA architecture.
It could be unveiled around February 2022.
