Interestingly, India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced a recall of some petrol variants of Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, and XL6 on Friday.
Why Would This Happen?
While explaining the reason behind it, Maruti Suzuki India said that this is to inspect for a possible defect in these models.
In total, 181,754 units of these models which were manufactured between 4th May 2018 to 27th October 2020 will be recalled.
Further adding that these recall campaigns are undertaken globally to rectify faults that may be potential safety defects.
A Voluntary Recall By Maruti Suzuki
The car-making firm said, “In the interest of customers, Maruti Suzuki has decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles for inspection/replacement of the Motor Generator Unit, free of cost. Affected vehicle owners would be receiving a communication from Maruti Suzuki authorized workshops,” in a regulatory filing.
When Will This Happen?
As per the reports, the replacement of the affected part is expected to start from the first week of November 2021.
During this time, Maruti Suzuki India has requested its customers to avoid driving in waterlogged areas and direct water spray on electrical/electronic parts in vehicles.
For helping the customers, the owners of suspected vehicles can also visit the ‘Imp Customer Info’ section on the Company websites www.marutisuzuki.com (for Ertiga and Vitara Brezza) or www.nexaexperience.com (for Ciaz, XL6 and S-Cross).
Wherein they can fill in their vehicle’s chassis number (MA3, followed by 14 digits alpha-numeric number) to check if their vehicle needs any attention.
If you are wondering about the chassis number, it is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also mentioned in the vehicle invoice/registration documents.
Second Recall In 10 Months
Moreover, Maruti Suzuki expects output to plunge in September as the semiconductor shortage hits production.
According to the company, the total volume could be about 40% of normal output in September, as mentioned in an exchange filing on Tuesday.
It seems to be happening for the second time as a vehicle recall by Maruti Suzuki happened in less than 10 months.
Prior To this, the Delhi-based company had recalled 40,453 units of the Eeco to fix an issue with the vehicle’s headlamp in November last year.
That time, recalled units were manufactured between November 4, 2019, and February 25, 2020.
