The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will provide a special bus service to the city residents starting Friday, which will provide them with unlimited travel at only Rs 10.
The service is aimed at decongesting the narrow roads inside the city by encouraging more people to use public transport, rather than their own vehicles.
While the civic body will start the special bus service with 50 midi-sized, fully air-conditioned buses, it has plans to expand the network to about 500 buses in other parts of the city by the end of 2021.

Bus Service in Pune for Rs 10
The Pune civic body, Pune Municipal Corporation is all set to start a new bus service of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) line, on Monday.
PMPML is a public transport bus service in the city.
The special service will launch at the heart of the city and will connect some of the most-congested parts of the city.
It is fully air-conditioned, will run on CNG and will provide seating for 24 people. The highlight here is that the bus will provide unlimited services to a passenger for one whole day, at a minimal cost of Rs 10.
It is parameterized to cover nine routes, from Deccan Gymkhana to Poolgate, Swargate to Shivajinagar and Swargate to Pune Station.
The chairperson of the standing committee, Hemant Rasane, while speaking on the matter, informs that the buses will provide services at a good frequency, of only 5 minutes on main roads and 15 on internal roads.
While the PMC has announced to launch the service initially with 50 midi buses, it will introduce 300 more with the same service with 300 buses in other parts of the city by December.
Bus Service to Launch with a Powerful Message
Rasane announces that the PMPML special service is aimed at discouraging residents from using private vehicles, as they congest the narrow roads in the heart of the city.
By providing the bus service at a minimal, very comfortable and a good frequency rate, in the heart of the city, people will be encouraged to do away with their private vehicles and use these services instead.
“The small size buses have been introduced on the narrow roads in the central part of the city,” adds Rahane.
The special bus service was declared in the 2020-21 annual budget. It is also likely to cause a deficit of Rs 2 crore per month to the PMC, as it cost the civic body a total of Rs 15 crore to purchase those 50 buses.
