5G Trials To Begin In Next Two/ Three Months

About 16 applications have been received by the  Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for the 5G field trials using both indigenous and imported technologies for the upcoming 5G trials that are to be held in the next two to three months.

As per reports, the panel is not happy with the way the telecom department has handled the 5G business. Apparently, the panel has said that what has happened is in contradiction from what DoT has informed the committee during the examination of Demands for Grants in February 2020

The DoT was also asked by the panel why 5G trials haven’t been allowed to occur until now, despite there being no major issues surrounding the matter. Applications were filed by the telecom service providers (TSPs) had submitted from January 2020. The panel has asked why there has been such a huge delay in conducting 5G trials as yet.

The committee has stated that if there are any more delays in the testing of 5G, there will be more delays in the launch of the 5G network.

DoT To Work With Departments And Ministries For 5G Development

The telecom department has clarified that it has been working with different departments and ministries to set up India’s specific 5G use case labs. The DoT has approved the development of 5G use case labs in the financial sector.

Additionally, the report from the parliamentary panel states that DoT will allow 5G trials to be conducted in the next two to three months. As per the report, the trials will take place in a limited area and time in order to test the India specific 5G use cases.

Additionally, the spectrum auction for the 5G airwaves in the 3300-3600 MHz is going to be a bit later. This means that the rollout of 5G services should not be expected until late 2021 or early 2022.
