Work From Home Impact: Capgemini Hires Rural Indian Women, Offers Rs 3.5 Lakh Salary!

Work From Home Impact: Capgemini Hires Rural Indian Women, Offers Rs 3.5 Lakh Salary!

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, major dips have been observed in the employment statistics, locally as well as globally.

People who have not been under the axe have had to work from home and change their schedules to bode well with the preexisting external conditions.

Companies, too, have been forced to incorporate major changes in order to maintain their structural integrity and perform well. Capgemini, a French multinational company, has decided to put this structural change to some good use.

Capgemini Hiring Rural Women For Software Jobs

Capgemini which considers itself to be “a global leader in consulting, technology services and digital transformation” has initiated a project under the name of ‘Sakhi Drishtikon’. This project aims to integrate women from the rural parts of India as employees of Capgemini. The target has been set at hiring 500 women as software engineers by December of this year. To kickstart this project, 100 women have been taken in from various parts of southern India. They are being trained to handle their parts working in the cloud and infrastructure services (CIS) business to start with, and also work on the cyber security front. As Radhika Ramesh, global delivery center head for CIS India, Capgemini, mentioned in her statement to the PTI, “it will be similar to business process outsourcing (BPO) services”.

Work From Home Is The Catalyst

Women, especially in India, are inherently faced with the problems of relocation, be it for personal growth or because of an economic opportunity. Capgemini aims to remedy this exact problem with this project. Qualified women, like graduates, postgraduates or those with a specialized diploma, will be trained with the intent of hiring.

In order to equip them with the required skills to be absorbed into projects, the company will hold rigorous training modules and experienced engineers will be asked to serve as mentors.

In addition to propping up rural women, the company will treat them at par with other trainees, with a salary of at least 3.5 lakh rupees a year. The steps so taken will not only help with their upliftment but it will also empower them to work like their urban counterparts do. Additionally, the company has roped in non-government organizations as partners to spot such women across the country.

This incorporation of work from home into the company regimen will not only help the several women who are being hired, across the country, but also their families. Capgemini, with this initiative, has inducted the first batch of 100 and is set to hire many more. Hopefully, this trend will be adapted by other such companies looking to expand in the future.
