The officials of Jio Platforms Ltd and Reliance Jio Infocomm have assured the parliamentary committee that they do not have any data sharing mechanism with Google and Facebook.
Google and Facebook are the investors of the former and data safety is being investigated.

Jio Denies Sharing Data Of Customers With Facebook And Google
Jio Platforms Ltd and Reliance Jio Infocomm were asked if there is any data sharing mechanism between the company and Facebook and Google, who are its investors, and their officials have denied it.
Meenakshi Lekhi, who is the head of the committee and is a member of BJP has said, “It was asked to Jio executives that does the company have any data-sharing mechanism with Google and Facebook and its users, to which the representatives of the telecom firm declined and informed that both tech players are its financial investors.”
In fact, the officials of the organization have also said that personal data is not shared with not only third party or investors, but also the (Reliance) Group of Companies or any other entity within the (Reliance) Group.
As per the committee, the officials have said that they were in favor of data privacy. They have also assured the Parliamentary Committee that the available personal data of their customers will not be shared by Reliance with any third party.
Reliance Favours Data Protection?
As per reports, in the deposition, Reliance has said that it favors data protection and its localization in India, which is contradictory to the opinion of social media giant Facebook on the same matter.
The officials said, “Any data stored abroad is bound by regulation of foreign countries, the officials said. The data principal (content owner) cannot have effective relief in case of a breach in foreign land.”
They also said that personal data should be store in India in order to be sure of its security, sovereignty, and privacy. This will also result in the development of digital infrastructure in the country, as per the officials.
The Parliamentary Joint Committee has told the officers to take care that there is no direct conflict of interest as they deal with the personal data of their customers.
