New Ecommerce Policy: Govt Wants To Kill Chinese Imports; Online Portals Mandated To Show ‘Made In India’ Tag

Very soon, e-commerce companies, such as Amazon, Flipkart, and others, will have to inform their buyers if the product that is being sold on their platform is made in India or not. 

In fact, there is a possibility that a new e-commerce policy will be implemented in the country in order to limit the goods and products that are imported from China.

New Policy To Require E-commerce Platforms To Display If Products Are Made In India

The telecom ministry has directed BSNL MTNL and other private companies to stop using Chinese equipment. This was followed by the Indian railways terminating there contract with Chinese companies too. The tensions between India and China at the LAC have led to a feeling of enrage in the entire country and people have started boycotting Chinese goods and products already.

There is news that a new e-commerce policy is in the drafts by the commerce and industry ministry. This policy will include a clause that will make it compulsory for the e-commerce companies to display whether a product is being sold on there platform are made in India or otherwise. 

An official close to the development said, “We will mandate ecommerce players to display whether a product is made in India or not. We are actively looking to enable that. This will help cut out Chinese goods.” 

Check Mark On E-Commerce Platform Will Enable Customers To Buy Made In India Products

He said that there will be a check mark that will enable customers to buy goods that have been made in India. Also, the policy will soon be announced in public domain for comment.

The Draft National Ecommerce Policy, which was proposed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade asks for E-Commerce companies to make seller details available on their platforms for all the goods and products that were being sold. This policy ask that the full name of the legal entity along with its address and contact details should be provided. 

There is also a possibility that the policy might also ask for a regulator that will keep misinformants in check and penalise them. It will be directed the promotion of ecommerce, jobs, rural productivity and exports
