Yesterday, Delhi and few other states in India threw open their liquor stores, which triggered sudden rush of crowd, wherein all aspects of social distancing were put into thrash.
However, this hasn’t deterred the respective State Govts from closing down the stores.
In fact, in order to take advantage of this steep demand of alcohol, Delhi Govt has imposed a special 70% coronavirus tax on all sale of liquor.
Price of diesel too has been increased.

Coronavirus Tax On Sale Of Liquor; Diesel Price Increased
Delhi Govt has imposed a special ‘coronavirus tax’ on the sale of all liquors in the National Capital.
This additional cess on sale of liquor will be applicable on the MRP, and have been approved by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
Delhi government’s finance department said in a notification that this new cess will be applicable at “70% of the maximum retail price of all categories of liquor sold through written licences for consumption off the premises,”
Delhi Govt has lost around Rs 645 crore from tax collections from the sale of liquor, ever since lockdown was imposed from March 25th.
Total of 150 shops have been allowed to be open in Delhi, but CM Kejriwal warned that if the buyers of liquor dont follow social distancing rules, then he may be forced to close down the stores again.
Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh has also allowed the sale of liquor, but only in Orange and Green zones.
Diesel and Petrol price in Delhi too has been increased, after ONGC revises the rates after a gap of 50 days. Petrol price in Delhi is now increased by Rs 1.67, and diesel price increased by Rs 7.10/litre.
Petrol and diesel price has also increased in all over the nation, and in states likeAssam, Haryana, Nagaland, Karnataka, West Bengal, extra burden has been imposed on buyers, due to state-wide VAT.
