What About Ticket Cancellation?
The Railways have also been seeing a surge in cancellations on their long-distance passenger trains over the past week, mirroring the increase in the cases of novel coronavirus infection in the country.
There has been a spike in ticket cancellation in both Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR).
On March 12, out of the 65,943 tickets booked on CR, 22,441 were cancelled, amounting to Rs 110.27 lakh in refunds, as per CR officials.
With these circumstances, the cancellation rate on March 12 was 34.03%, much higher than the average rate of around 14%.
What Is The Train Ticket Cancellation Charges?
Basically, the E-tickets can be cancelled via the IRCTC website by paying a cancellation charge according to respective train classes.
Also, the cancellation fee is charged per passenger and there won’t be any refund for the confirmed tatkal train ticket cancellation.
Further, IRCTC doesn’t entertain any refund of fare on RAC e-tickets in case the ticket is not cancelled or TDR not filed online up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
Normally, IRCTC levies 25 per cent of the fare as the cancellation charge subject to a minimum amount fixed for every class if a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
Further, the ticket cancellation fee escalates to 50 per cent of the fare if a confirmed ticket is cancelled less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
What Is The Latest IRCTC Ticket Cancellation Guidelines?
As per the latest IRCTC guidelines, a fee of Rs 240 is levied for AC first class/executive class cancellation, Rs 200 for AC 2 tier/first class, Rs 180 for AC 3 tier/AC chair car/ AC 3 economy, Rs 120 for sleeper class and Rs 60 for the second class as the flat cancellation charge if a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train.
How To Cancel A Ticket?
The confirmed E-Tickets can be cancelled/TDR filed up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
While partly waitlisted/RAC tickets can be cancelled/TDR filed up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the train.

- Select ‘My Transactions’ from dropdown
- Select ‘Booked Ticket History’
- Select the PNR you want to cancel.
- Click on the Cancel Ticket button and select passengers to be cancelled.
