Top 9 Electric Cars Showcased At Auto Expo 2020: Kia, Mahindra, Tata, Maruti, GWM & More!

The 15th Auto Expo of 2020 is set to take place between February 7-12, 2020 at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. One of the main themes of this year’s expo is the rise of EVs in India which started with Hyundai’s Kona Electric in 2019.

The first day at the Auto Expo 2020 witnessed many companies like TATA Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and many more showcasing their cars. But the highlight at every pavilion was the EV the companies are set to launch in near future.

Mahindra eKUV 100

Mahindra has launched its eKUV100 at the Auto Expo 2020 priced at ? 8.25 lakh, ex-showroom which makes it the most affordable EV on sale in India.

It had made its debut at Auto Expo 2018, but Mahindra took its time in the car’s production and launched it this year.

Mahindra eKUV100 looks similar to its petrol counterpart, KUV100. Mahindra claims eKUV100 will have around 140 km range in a single charge. Power on the Mahindra eKUV100 will come from an all-new powertrain called mStallion with 40 kW electric that belts out about 53 bhp and 120 Nm of peak torque.

GWM Ora R1

The Chinese company, Great Wall Motors showcased its hatchback electric car,Ora R1 at the Auto Expo 2020 which according to the company will be the most affordable electric car in India. 

It will retail in India with a price range between Rs 6 lakh- Rs 9 lakh.

The ORA R1 offers a maximum cruising range of 351km with its 35kw motor with an acceptable 125Nm of torque.

Mahindra Atom

Mahindra launched its compact EV Atom at the Auto Expo 2020 for last mile connectivity. Atom Electric is aimed at redefining the public transportation in India.

The Atom is said to have  a power output of less than 15 kW and the top-speed will be limited to 70 kmph.The minimalistic design and high roofline carves out maximum space on the inside. 

It is expected to be priced at Rs 8.5 lakh.

Renault K-ZE

Renault has showcased the K-ZE (Kwid Electric) at the ongoing Auto Expo 2020. 

Aesthetically, the Renault City K-ZE is similar to the Kwid and even carries over several elements from the concept version. It is powered by an electric motor of 33kw and 125Nm of peak torque with a claimed range of 271km (NEDC cycle).

The launch of the K-ZE is not announced but the expected price is below Rs 10 lakh.

KIA Soul EV

The first electric car from Kia is the Kia Soul EV was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to launch in India.

Soul EV offers a range of 450km in a single charge. In its global spec, the car has 2 variants – a 64kWh battery with a 150 kW motor & 39.2 kWh battery with 99 kW output. 

The price of KIA’s Soul EV is estimated to be Rs 10 lakh.

Mahindra eXUV300

At the AutoExpo 2020, Mahindra revealed the all-electric iteration of the XUV300 SUV, which is set to launch in the second half of 2020.

The XUV300 Electric comes with a slightly revised front and rear profiles compared to the regular XUV300. Mahindra has revealed not the technical specifications.

Mahindra’s XUV300 is expected to be priced at 15 lakhs.

TATA Altroz EV

TATA showcased its hatchback ICE Altroz counterpart; TATA Altroz EV at the Auto Expo 2020.The car is expected to be based on the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture.

Tata has confirmed that starting with Nexon EV, all the future EVs will work on Ziptron powertrain technology. All Ziptron powered EVs will come with a range of above 250 km on a single charge.

TATA Altroz EV estimated price range is Rs 12 lakh- Rs 14lakh.

TATA Nexon EV

TATA has already launched its first private sector EV; Nexon EV in January 2020.

The car claims to offer upto 312kms range in a single charge powered by a motor of 95kW and 245 Nm of peak torque.

The starting price of theNexon EV is Rs 13.99lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Futuro-e

Maruti Suzuki has taken the wraps off of its Futuro-E concept at the 2020 Auto Expo in India which is designed completely in India.

The company has not yet revealed the technical specifications of the car and the chances of the car making it into the production lines are very low. 

The expected price of Futuro-e is around Rs 15 lakh.
