National Capital New Delhi is under a health emergency right now, as pollution has seeped deep into the air, and Air Quality Index has broken all records.

The city is gasping for fresh air, as everyone is seen moving around in masks, even inside their homes.

To control and contain this apocalyptic haze, and pollution, AAP-led Delhi Govt. has imposed the Odd-Even rule in the entire city.

This was started in 2016, as a last measure resort to control pollution.

Odd Even Scheme Rules

Odd-Even scheme has started from November 4th, which is a Monday. As per the rule, all vehicles with numbers ending in even numbers will be allowed to run on even days, and vehicles will odd numbers will be allowed to run on the odd dates. 

This odd even rule, as of now, has been imposed till November 14th.

Hence, if you car’s vehicle number is say, 6745, then it can only run on these dates: November 5th, November 7th, November 9th, November 11th, November 13th and November 15th.

Similarly, if your vehicle number is say, 9012, then it can only run on these dates: November 4th, November 6th, November 8th, November 10th, November 12th and November 14th.

Odd Even Rule Timings

The rule of odd even will be applicable from 8AM to 8PM, and between Monday to Saturday. Sundays will be an exemption.

Penalty For Breaking Laws Of Odd Even Rules

Rs 4000 penalty has been finalized for breaking the odd-even rule. Earlier, the penalty was Rs 2000. Every 4-wheeler, even those coming from outside the city will be bound to follow this rule. 

Exemptions For Odd Even Rule 

Two-wheelers are not bound to follow the odd-even rule in Delhi.

Besides, there are 29 categories of personals, for whom, the odd-even rule will not apply. This includes:

  • Woman driving the car alone, or with other womens and/or with kids aged below 12 years
  • Medical emergencies, ambulances
  • Vehicles with school children, only if they are in school dress
  • Electric vehicles are exempted (but CNG vehicles are not)
  • President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, state governors need not follow this rule.
  • Chief Justice of India, Speakers of the Lok Sabha, Union ministers, and leaders of the Opposition of both the Houses, Supreme Court judges, chairman of UPSC, chief election commissioners and CAG, deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha and deputy speaker of Lok Sabha and lieutenant-general of NCT/Delhi and judges of high court and members of the Lokayukta are also exempted.
  • Defence vehicles and enforcement vehicles are exempted.
  • No exemptions for  Delhi government ministers and the chief minister.

No Surge Pricing By Ola/Uber

Both Ola and Uber have decided that during the odd-even rule, there will be no surge pricing, whatsoever. 

Besides, Delhi Metro will run additional trains to check in the rush.
