Design: New Upgraded 3D Curved Design, Splash Resistant

While many would complain why Realme is still yet to upgrade to a glass design as Xiaomi already have budget smartphones made out of quality Corning Gorilla 5 glass, the company is continuously trying to improve the plastic-made design. Obviously, glass feels more premium, but the Realme 5 series don’t miss out on the newness.

Yes definitely there’s no glass, but the company has used a new design language this time called ‘Crystal design’ with 3D curved glossy plastic rear panels.

Also, the diamond-cut design is back, and this time with a new triangular pattern. A slight upgrade over the older Realme devices, the Realme 5 smartphones are a bit different. There’s a new plus, the Realme 5 smartphones also come with splash-resistant designs.

Starting with the budget hero, Realme 5 comes in two new colour options: Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple with gradient hues, while the Pro model, the Realme 5 Pro will also be available in two colour options: Crystal Green and Crystal Blue.

Display: New Mini-Drop Panels

The company unveiled new Mini-Drop panels with Realme 5 smartphones. These displays will come with a 30 percent smaller notches compared to the previous generation Realme devices. Realme 5 comes with around 89 percent screen to body ratio, while the Realme 5 Pro sports a screen to body ratio of around 91 percent.

Realme 5 Pro features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Mini-drop display with 450 nits brightness and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Realme 5 has a 6.5-inch HD+ Mini-drop display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The curved, droplet notch is smaller this time with Realme 5 devices. It has turned flatter compared to past dewdrop displays on Realme smartphones. At the back, both Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and also supports face unlock.

Hardware & Storage: New Qualcomm Chips

Realme 5 Pro is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 712 chipset based on a 10nm process. It’s the same chip powering Vivo Z1 Pro. We have previously tested the chip, and it does offer some great speeds. The gaming performance is awesome, while day to day use is top-notch.

Similarly, the budget Realme 5 comes with the new Snapdragon 665 chip, based on a 10nm process. We tested the chip on Mi A3, and it ran smoothly everything we threw at it, including some top games.

Realme 5 Pro will come with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Realme 5 comes with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Both the smartphones offer a dedicated triple card slot that can support two nano SIM cards and a microSD card (up to 256GB of additional storage).

Let’s Talk About The Quad Cameras: What’s New & Different?

Up front, Realme 5 Pro has the same 16-megapixel selfie camera with HDR and AI beautification as Realme X.

The four camera setup has multiple sensors for multiple purposes.

Both the rear and front camera on both the Realme 5 smartphones have EIS support. The much-hyped Nightscape mode also has been improved and it will be there on both Realme 5 Pro and Realme 5.

The quad camera system on Realme 5 is different from the Pro model. It features a 12-megapixel f/1.8 primary camera instead of a 48MP sensor. The other three cameras remain the same: an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and two 2-megapixel sensors where one is for macros and the other for portraits.

The rear camera on Realme 5 also supports Nightscape, Chroma Boost and HDR modes.

Battery: A Big Jump

Realme 5 packs a large 5,000mAh battery, a first for any Realme phone. This massive capacity has been specifically optimised with hardware and software to allow the Realme 5 to last for the longest period possible on a single charge.

Both Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro runs on Android Pie-based ColorOS 6.

On the other hand, Realme 5 Pro houses a slightly smaller 4,035mAh battery. But the smartphone supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging with a Type C 20W fast charger included in the box.
