India’s 73rd Independence Day: $5 Trillion Economy, Rs 100 Lakh Cr For Infrastructure

Today, on August 15th, India is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day, and there is patriotic energy all over the nation.

As per the custom, the Prime Minister of India hoisted the tricolor at Red Ford in New Delhi, and gave a speech highlighting the achievements, and plans for an aspiring India.

$5 Trillion Economy

PM Modi declared that in the next 5 years, India will become a $5 trillion economy, and concrete steps have been taken in this regard. In his speech, he said that it took 70 years for India to breach the $2 trillion economy benchmark, but in the last 3 years, we added $1 trillion into the economy, thereby becoming $3 trillion market. 

He promised that in the next 5 years, we will become $5 trillion economy, and one of the largest markets in the world.

Rs 100 Lakh Crore Fund For Infrastructure

PM Modi has informed the nation that Govt. is all set to allocate Rs 100 lakh crore for developing India’s infrastructure. This will include improving Railways, expanding highways, developing bridges, schools, hospitals and more. 

This will be the largest ever budget allocation for improving and developing critical infrastructure in India. 

Promoting Tourism

The Independence Day speech by PM Modi also highlighted the fact that we need to improve our tourism sector, and generate more jobs and invite more foreigners to visit us. He asked everyone in India to make sure that we have 100 tourist destinations of world class, which can trigger a revolution in the sector.

Stopping Pollution

Pollution is one of the biggest problems which India is facing right now, and PM Modi focused on eliminating this menace. He appealed to the nation to reduce using plastics, and adapt cloth based bags this Diwali. He urged the farmers to reduce the usage of fertilizers, and focus on organic farming. For making rivers clean, a new mission was announced for which Rs 3.7 lakh crore has been allocated.

Focus on Startups, Entrepreneurship

PM Modi also talked about startups and entrepreneurs in India, and declared that Ease of Doing Business in India will be further simplified. He said, “Today, the Government in India is stable, policy system is predictable. World is eager to trade with India. We are working to keep prices under check and speed up development. The fundamentals of our economy are strong.”

Since 1991, this was the longest Independence Day speech by a Prime Minister. This was PM Modi’s 6th consecutive Independence Day speech.
