Tinder Goes Light: Tinder ‘Lite’ Launched For Saving Your Phone Memory; Will Be Available In India As Well

Plans for the Tinder Lite were first announced in the Match Group’s earnings call with investors, when CEO Mandy Ginsberg said that the app called “Tinder Lite” is the smaller version of the current flagship app.

Many tech companies have started offering “Lite” version of their apps to take onboard rapidly growing online users from emerging markets, especially India which has the largest population of millennials. For example – Tik Tok Lite, Facebook Lite, LinkedIn Lite, Instagram Lite. So, it is obvious that Tinder doesn’t want to miss out on this opportunity.

Tinder Lite Can Boost Growth

The reason to launch the Lite app is to specifically focus on the needs of users in areas where data usage, bandwidth, and storage space is a concern. It will give access to millions of users to find their perfect partner without having to worry about on-device space management and extravagant Internet usage.

While the company didn’t share the size of its total user base, the Tinder app averaged around 4.7 million paid subscribers in Q1, up by 1.3 million from the same time last year, parent company Match Group said this week when announcing its Q1 2019 earnings.

Southeast Asia has been taken into consideration during the announcement of Tinder Lite. According to the Match Group CEO Mandy Ginsberg, internet penetration has grown by nearly 15% in the region in the last 5 years and hence made it the key area of target.

Tinder Lite: Features and Details

Tinder Lite, like other Lite-branded apps, will remove the heavier features of the existing app to focus on the core experience of swiping and matching. The company is yet to reveal the features that will be included in the slimmed down version.

We are excited about the Tinder Lite app that will be coming soon. It’s a big step forward addressing the needs of consumers there,” said Ginsberg.

She said that the app will be light to use, and would consume less memory on the smartphone.

The exact launch date of Tinder Lite is not announced yet. But according to CEO Mandy Ginsberg, it’s “coming soon”

Tinder is one of the best dating apps but is now facing stiff competition from its rivals. Facebook has also become its competitor after launching of their own dating app, ‘Secret Crush.’

Only time will tell if the launch of Tinder Lite, will do any good to the company or not.
