Consumer electronics’ behemoth Samsung has finally revealed how their futuristic foldable phone looks, and appears. And world’s biggest digital company: Google has officially extended their support to ‘foldables’.
This two news prove that foldable phones are the future of smartphones, and the future is very near.
Infinity Flex Display, Samsung’s Foldable Phone: This Is How It Looks!
During their Developers’ Conference in the USA, Samsung finally revealed their much-hyped foldable phone, and showed how it works.
Albeit, for a very short duration, and protected against a dark silhouette to protect the ‘secret sauce’.
Called as Infinity Flex Display, Samsung’s foldable phone transforms into a tablet as it is opened from the inside, and then changes back to a smartphone when closed, from the inside.
During the event, the actual demo took place for just 45 seconds and was intentionally done against a dark background to protect the exact specifics of the design.

While the smartphone’s size is 4.5 inch, the tablet transforms into 7.3 inch screen.

As per Samsung, they are solving a major problem for the smartphone industry: Increasing the effective display area, without actually increasing the size of the device.
It seems that science fiction has come true.
Few days back, we had reported about Royole, an unknown company which has already launched world’s 1st foldable smartphone called FlexPai.
However, as we wrote about this phone, the issue of fragmentation still exists, which happens because Android is not yet equipped to support such foldables.
But from now on, this also changes, as Google has officially extended their support to foldables.
Google: Ok. We Will Support Foldables Now!
While Samsung was displaying their first prototype of an actual working foldable smartphone, Google has announced that from now on, Android will support foldables.
This is a major news because earlier versions of foldables didn’t work as expected. Once the screen size suddenly changes, there is a disruption in the display, and the issue of fragmentation comes up.
But now, as Android will support all foldables, this won’t happen.
This was confirmed during Android Developer Summit, where VP of engineering Dave Burke said that Google is “enhancing Android to take advantage of this new form factor with as little work as necessary.”
Infact, Google developers already have this feature in the API, called ‘screen continuity’. From now, this can be used by OEMs, and make sure that the screen quickly adapts to the different sizes, as foldables fold and unfold.
