Xiaomi yesterday launched three Redmi 6 phones at different price points, and undoubtedly all of them pack in some top features and great hardware. Redmi 6A seems like a winner at under Rs 6,000 and so is Redmi 6.
But, people don’t feel the same for Redmi 6 Pro.
Redmi 6 Pro do have a good set of specs onboard, but the smartphone lacks innovation and top of the line hardware given its price point. At a certain level, Redmi 6 Pro has disappointed a lot of Xiaomi fans.
Redmi 6 Pro Lacks Good Hardware
Xiaomi just loves Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. Like they may have repeated it for over a dozen of phones now. This will pay hard for Xiaomi this time, as the competition has intensified with time. It was Xiaomi who for the first time in India set in a benchmark for companies to launch smartphones with top hardware and specs at very competitive price points.
The 4GB version of Redmi 6 Pro at Rs 12,999 seems very awful if compared to the other smartphones at the same price point.
Definitely Xiaomi could have done better with Redmi 6 Pro, but they decided to go the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. It’s the renamed version of the global unit of Mi A2 Lite.
Coming to the chipset, the two year Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 remains one of the most-used chipsets for any smartphone ever. It does come with some capabilities, but this aging processor is nothing to what others are offering at the same price point now.
Smartphones in 2018 need more power and efficiency, and Snapdragon 625 is not something you want to buy with 13k.
Redmi 6 Pro Competition: Better Alternatives Available
Asus is offering a Snapdragon 636 chipset at a lower price than Xiaomi with Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, and with just a few thousand bucks extra, there are some top smartphones available who offer better hardware and value-for-money specs at lower price tags.
Xiaomi has its own Mi A2 for a little more which offers a Snapdragon 660 chipset. Honor Play comes with a flagship Kirin 970 chipset just under Rs 20,000. Even Xiaomi itself set in a massive benchmark with Poco F1.
Xiaomi has previously used Snapdragon 625 with Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi Mi A1, Redmi Note 5, Redmi Y2 and now Redmi 6 Pro, and we don’t know how long this list will run.
With Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Y2 already available in the market with the same processor and prices, why will people choose a higher-priced Redmi 6 Pro over the others, for a notch?
In all, Snapdragon 625 is good offering an all-round performance, but not good enough to be in a smartphone being launched in late 2018. In terms of daily usage, the smartphone may not lag much and it will be able to handle decent amount of multitasking and gaming backed by some good battery life.
Redmi 6 Pro: Choose It For Notch?
To sum it up, Redmi 6 Pro does pack in a decent set of specs including a budget pricing. If you are someone who just wants a notch on top of their display, it’s better to go with Realme 2 or the Honor 9N. Redmi 6 Pro will be up against its own Redmi Note 5, Redmi Y2 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.
Redmi 6 Pro is for the one who is looking for a notch designed to display, some decent performance, a good battery back and rear dual cameras.
