Goa, a popular tourist destination, may become the first state in India to get Google’s full 3D map imagery that will give you a 3D street view of every nook and corner of the state reports ToI.
And to entice Goa government to give a nod for this, Google India has offered to incubate 1000 IT startups in Goa through it’s funded programs. Google will essentially offer Industry experts & mentors from leading Indian Tech companies to guide these incubated startups.
The discussions in this regards happened between Google India Managing Director Rajan Anandan and Goa CM Manohar Parrikar on May 30 where they discussed Google’s proposal of digitizing the entire state.
Goa CM, Mr. Parrikar expressed enthusiasm on Google’s proposal and commented, “We are interested in the ideas. We have asked them to submit concrete proposals. We are likely to meet at the end of July,”.
3D imageries and Street views become very helpful for tourists who plan on vacation in places like Goa. For anyone who is new to place, they can precisely know what is on offer in a particular place and best ways to reach there.
While Goa may become the first state to get 3D imagery, Google has already tied up with ASI (Archeological Survey of India) to open up street view of Indian heritage sites for global tourists on Google Maps. People across the world can now view Taj Mahal and 30 other Indian heritage sites online on Google Maps in 3D street view.
Google map’s initiatives in India are not only limited to tourist spots and heritage sites. They also recently launched “Indoor Maps” that offers interior 3D views of places like shopping malls, Convention centers, museums and super stores. A total of 75 Indian venues are now available on Google Indoor maps.
Apart from this, Google has also started allowing users to generate and upload their own 360º virtual tours through their mobile camera app feature called “Photo Sphere”
