UC Browser Crosses 500M Users, Witnesses 382% YoY Growth In India

Firstly, if you are not aware (and you could be excused for that), UC Browser, the flagship product of mobile software and services provider UCWeb, is the number One mobile browser in India. According to press release sent to us, UC browser has now surpassed a whopping 500 million users worldwide, making it the largest third party mobile browser by user base in the world.

UC browser claims to have over 30 percent market share in India making it the top mobile browser by a fair margin. The analysis that we carried out few days back showed that it has around 22 percent market share in among Indian smartphone users.

But the biggest market UC Browser is able to capture is China, where they have captured nearly two-thirds of market share. China’s mobile users represent the world’s largest smartphone market (research firm IDC predicts China’s smartphone shipments will exceed 450 million in 2014).

Success in China and India has given UCWeb the experience and momentum to further expand globally. Within the past year, UC Browser has seen significant growth in several of the fastest growing countries in terms of internet usage – Russia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the United States. As of today, UC Browser has over 10% share of the mobile browser market in 10 countries around the world.

To mark this milestone, UC browser has launched a new brand mascot redesigned to better embody the faster and smarter web experience that they provide.

To further increase their market share in India, UC Browser have been coming up with number of new features that include newly launched train enquiry service that gives users an easy, one-stop solution for checking train status and ticketing information. They also have tied up with cricbuzz by releasing an add-on that provides users with easy cricket updates.

UC Browser’s success needs to be taken note of, because they are the only company (among Top 5) who have not graduated from being a web browser to a mobile browser (like Opera) and they also do not have backing of their own mobile OS like Chrome or Nokia Browser. They have understood the need of developing market well and offered users with light and fast browser that not only saves user’s mobile internet costs but also provides them with superior mobile browsing experience.
