Reliance Jio Will Launch 4G Services In Delhi & Mumbai By Sept 2014: Sources

Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has announced plans to launch their highly awaited 4G services by September 2014, according to sources inside the company.

A source within the company was quoted as saying, “Reliance Jio is engaged in building up team for telecom services which is almost done. Telecom services are likely to be launched in third quarter of 2014 i.e. July-September period starting from Delhi and Mumbai.” [Via]

4G trial services have already commenced in 3 cities of Delhi, Mumbai and Jamnagar. After the initial launch in 2 metros, Reliance Jio will launch the same in southern India, followed by West, North and then East.

As part of their 4G offerings, Reliance Jio Infocomm is expected to launch many value added services like Live TV (Jio Play), Cloud base Sync and Storage (JIO Drive), Video on Demand (Jio World), Video calls over 4G and other value added Apps.

According to few people who have tested the Reliance Jio 4G services, internet speeds range from 9 mbps to 48 mbps. Those kind of speeds are unheard of, even on Airtel network who have already launched 4G in 4-5 cities in India. The company have themselves demonstrated that 4G will offer speeds of about 49 mbps, which is over 10 times faster than current 3G speeds. On a 4G connection, a user will be able to download a full length movie in about 2 minutes.

Reliance Jio Infocomm is the only company to have Pan-Indian 4G-LTE airwaves. They are expected to make a big splash when they announce their services in third quarter of this year.

Reliance Jio also plans to launch range of MiFi devices, that will enable consumers to create a Wi-Fi zone inside their homes and take advantage of 4G internet speeds on various devices. These devices are expected to be based on Google’s Android platform.

There is no doubt that if Reliance is able to offer 4G services at affordable rates, it will change the dynamics of internet offerings in India.
