Samsung launches its online store in India – But why?

Samsung has launched its own online store in India called Samsung India e-Store. I spent about 2 minutes browsing the site and it was clear that Samsung has done it just for the sake. The prices are probably the highest if you compare them amongst the Flipkart’s, Infibeam’s & Letsbuy’s of the world.  The look & feel of the website is as average as it can get. Apart from it quite a few pages are missing images or the structure is broken.

I really do not understand the point of this. We asked the same question when Nokia launched their online store – Nokia Shop – earlier this year.

Samsung has launched this store in partnership with Savex Computers Ltd, national distributor for Samsung India Electronics Private Limited. All orders on the Samsung India eStore will be handled by them, which includes delivery, Logistics and end customer interactions. In short, apart from the name (& products) Samsung does not have anything to do with it.

Indian’s are price conscious – If not anything, Samsung should have atleast gone ahead and kept some good offers on products to ensure their new Samsung eStore gets noticed. Not only are there no offers, but they are probably the most expensive of all.

Take example of Samsung Galaxy Note, which they are featuring it big time on the homepage – costs Rs. 33690/-

and if you buy from any other online shop, here is the prices that you get:

The difference is over Rs. 1000/-. I fail to understand the reason why would anyone buy from Samsung eStore? Everything else is standard including warranty & other terms.

Would love to hear your views on this…
