Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has partnered with Zomato for the delivery of pre-ordered meals.
Stations presently covered
Passengers will be able to avail Zomato’s service in only five railway stations for now, since the initiative is still in the experimental stage.
IRCTC has initiated a Proof of Concept (PoC), meaning initially the project will be tested for its feasibility, during which it will be available at five major train stations: New Delhi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Varanasi.
No wide rollout yet
“This is to inform that in view of widening the range of options available to rail passengers for ordering food of their choice under IRCTC’s E- Catering segment, IRCTC has tied up with M/s. Zomato Limited for supply and delivery of pre-ordered meals through IRCTC’s E-catering portal as a Proof of Concept (PoC) in the first phase at five Railway stations i.e. New Delhi, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow & Varanasi,” it said in an exchange filing.
Depending on its success and passenger feedback, there may be plans to expand to more railway stations in the future.
