According to reports, a Zomato employee from the Gurugram office complained on Reddit about a “new policy” that requires overtime for the remaining staff in the event that a teammate takes time off.

The post’s authenticity has not been verified, and Zomato has not yet responded to the widely shared post.
Zomate Asks For Overtime For Remaining Staff If Teammate Takes Time Off
According to the employee, who says they have been with Zomato for seven months, everything was going well until this new policy was implemented.
At Zomato, our people come first. Their well-being is our top priority, and we are clear: no one is mandatorily expected to work extra hours to cover for another team member's absence.

However, we encourage team members to step in and support colleagues who may be facing…
A Reddit user going by the handle “need_hell” shared the post, which immediately went viral and elicited a lot of responses from other users.
While many criticized the company, others conjectured that Zomato’s CEO might not be aware of the policy and that it might only apply to one branch.
Instead of putting up with the alleged policy, some users advised the employee to hunt for other employment opportunities.
Reddit Users Offer Solution
“This happened back when I was a CSA. The operation manager imposed mandatory overtime for everyone without any consultation. Needless to say, it backfired. Overtime is optional. You cannot be forced to work overtime,” as per a Reddit user.
An additional user suggested that the worker step down, writing, “Write a resignation explaining well why you want to leave the organization, tag Deepinder (Zomato’s CEO) in the mail, and send it to the HR manager.”
A more severe approach was adopted by some users, one of whom proposed, “Post this on anti-work, hope Zomato shares crash with such stupidity.”
Recent contentious comments made by corporate executives have already stoked a heated online debate about working hours, labor laws, and workplace toxicity in India.
Companies have come under fire for allegedly overworking their employees as a result of discussions about extreme workweeks, such as the “70 to 90-hour workweek” statement and other contentious remarks.
Social Media Is Confused As Zomato Changes Name
Recently, Zomato has announced that its parent company, Zomato Limited, will now be known as Eternal Limited. The rebrand, revealed on Thursday, aims to reflect the company’s broader vision beyond food delivery.
CEO Deepinder Goyal explained that the name change represents more than a rebrand. “This is not just a name change; it is a mission statement,” he stated in a letter to shareholders.
Amid concerns that the Zomato brand itself might change, Goyal clarified that the food delivery app will continue to operate under the same name.
