Elon Musk’s social media platform, formerly Twitter, but has since been rebranded as “X,” has unveiled an array of new features, most notably, video and audio calling capabilities.
At this moment, these features are exclusively accessible to users who have subscribed to X Premium, previously known as Twitter Blue and are utilizing iOS devices.
Nevertheless, X has expressed its intention to extend these features to Android users in the near future.
Elon Musk’s X Launches Audio Video Calls
The announcement made by X on its platform reads, “We are introducing a revolutionary means of communication on X, one that encompasses both Audio and Video Calling. These features are now readily available for iOS users, with plans to make them accessible to Android users in the near future.”
It’s important to take note that if you are using X without a premium subscription, you still have the ability to receive calls. This freedom comes with the option to determine who is permitted to initiate calls to your account, a control that can be managed through your Direct Messaging settings. As a default setting, you can accept calls from people you follow or have in your address book. However, there is a stipulation: both the caller and recipient must have engaged in at least one exchange of Direct Messages with each other to enable the call feature.
How To Make Calls Through X?
To initiate a call on X, follow these straightforward steps:
1. Head to your Direct Messages section.
2. Choose an existing chat you would like to call or start a new conversation.
3. Click on the phone icon, indicating your preference for an ‘Audio call’ or ‘Video call’ by tapping the respective icons.
4. Your call recipient will promptly receive a notification, and in the event they are unable to answer, a missed call notification will be delivered to them.
Back in August, Elon Musk had already hinted at the development of these voice and video calling features as part of X’s broader transformation strategy. This transformation seeks to evolve the old Twitter into a comprehensive and multi-purpose platform. These new communication features are engineered to operate seamlessly across multiple devices, including iPhones, Android smartphones, Mac computers, and standard PCs. A distinguishing feature is that they do not require a traditional phone number for their use. As a result, X aims to offer a versatile and accessible communication platform, catering to a diverse range of users.
