Live and Work From Indonesia: Remote Worker Visa Launched

Though not officially named a “Digital Nomad Visa,” the E33G visa serves the same purpose for remote workers. The visa was launched in April 2024, and it permits Indian citizens and other foreign nationals to stay in Indonesia for one year.

The visa can be renewed for an additional year, and it is available only to those who work remotely for companies outside of Indonesia.

Applicants must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months, with 3 blank pages.

A minimum annual income of USD 60,000 (approx. ₹52,59,669) is required. Additionally, you must show a bank balance of at least USD 2,000 (approx. ₹1,75,356) maintained over the past 3 months.

The visa fee is 7,000,000 IDR (approx. ₹37,317).

Additional required documents include a return flight ticket, proof of accommodation, and a passport-size photo.

You must apply online via Indonesia’s official immigration website. After visa approval, you must enter Indonesia within 90 days.

Once in the country, you are required to complete the KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) residence permit process.

The KITAS process also includes biometric registration.

New Zealand Opens Doors to Digital Nomads Through Existing Visitor Visa

New Zealand also allows remote work under its existing visitor visa, as long as you’re working for a foreign employer or client. While there is no official digital nomad visa, the updated rules effectively allow digital nomads to live temporarily in New Zealand while continuing their overseas work.

This change is ideal for freelancers, tech workers, consultants, and creators who earn from sources outside New Zealand.

However, you cannot work for a New Zealand-based employer or provide goods/services to New Zealand clients or businesses.

Your main reason for visiting must still be tourism, visiting friends/family, or short-term personal travel.

Remote work is only permitted as a secondary activity, not the primary reason for the visit.
