WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging platform, is prioritizing user privacy with the development of an advanced security feature designed to reinforce the integrity of the app’s calling functionality.

Whatsapp's Big Privacy Push: IP Address Of Callers Can Be Now Hidden, Protected! (What Does This Mean?)

This forthcoming feature is conceived to furnish an additional layer of protection against potential security breaches that could compromise user privacy during calls.

Whatsapp To Introduce Toggle Feature “Protect IP address in calls”

A recent notable addition to WhatsApp is the introduction of a toggle feature aptly named ‘Protect IP address in calls,’ a clear indication of its intent to fortify the security perimeter and shield users from malevolent entities attempting to pinpoint their location or surreptitiously intercept their calls.

The revelation of this new security measure was initially brought to light by WABetaInfo, a reliable source for insights and updates on WhatsApp.

At present, this security feature is accessible and actively operational in the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for both Android and iOS. Its mechanism involves routing calls through WhatsApp servers, thereby adding a protective shield during call transmissions.

It’s important to note that enabling this feature might cause a marginal reduction in call quality, a trade-off for the enhanced security it provides. However, specific details regarding the extent of the potential impact on call quality have not been divulged.

How to Use This Feature?

Users can conveniently access and toggle this new security feature by navigating to a dedicated subsection named ‘Advanced’ under the ‘Privacy’ settings within the WhatsApp application.

To allay any concerns, WhatsApp unequivocally assures users that, even with this security feature enabled, all calls remain entirely protected through robust end-to-end encryption.

This encryption guarantees that not even WhatsApp itself can breach the privacy of the user by listening in on or intercepting their conversation.

In its current stage of development, this toggle feature may only be visible to a select group of users participating in the beta testing phase. However, WhatsApp is actively working towards making it universally available to all users in the coming updates. Unfortunately, an exact release date for the stable version has not been officially confirmed by WhatsApp at this time.
