WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is reportedly reintroducing the capability to send photos and videos with a “view once” feature through desktop apps, a function that was initially removed a year ago for enhanced privacy, as per WABetaInfo.
WhatsApp’s ‘View Once’ Feature Reintroduced Across Desktop Platforms
The recent decision to reinstate the feature includes WhatsApp for Windows, and the button for setting an image as a view once message can be found in the caption bar within the drawing editor. This functionality is not limited to WhatsApp for Windows but is also accessible for users on macOS and linked devices.
WhatsApp’s ‘View Once’ Feature Expands Across Platforms, Alongside Upcoming Android Profile Display
The report highlights that the reintroduction of the view once feature extends beyond WhatsApp for Windows, now encompassing WhatsApp Web, thereby providing users with a cross-platform experience. Enabling users to send photos and videos that can only be viewed once enhances privacy by preventing the content from being stored in the device’s memory. This feature is currently accessible to some users who have installed the latest updates of WhatsApp for Windows, WhatsApp for macOS, and WhatsApp Web, with a gradual rollout to more users anticipated in the coming weeks.
In parallel developments, WhatsApp is said to be working on a new feature for Android that will display profile information within users’ conversations beneath the contact name, particularly visible when the contact is offline and alternating with the last seen information if available.
