WhatsApp is experimenting with a new feature called the Meta AI tab, which could significantly change how users interact with artificial intelligence within the messaging app.

Currently, the feature is being tested in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. The new tab is designed to collect all AI-related tools and conversations in one place so users can access them more easily.

WhatsApp Tests New Meta AI Tab to Transform How Users Interact With AI in the App

The feature was spotted in recent beta builds available through the Google Play Store, including version 2.26.10.5. At the moment, it is available only to a limited number of beta testers.

In addition, the Meta AI tab appears in the bottom navigation bar of the app. It replaces the existing Communities shortcut, although community chats can still be accessed through the main Chats section.

Users who have access to the feature can open AI conversations directly from this tab rather than searching through different parts of the app to find the assistant.

The tab functions as a central hub for several AI-based tools. From here, users can ask questions, start chatbot conversations, generate images, animate visuals, and explore suggested prompts.

WhatsApp is also introducing real-time voice interaction features. Users can start live voice conversations with Meta AI by tapping a voice button in the search bar or using a shortcut in the menu.

WhatsApp Meta AI Tab Organises AI Prompts Into Separate Threads for Easier Access

Furthermore, each new prompt automatically creates a separate chat thread. WhatsApp assigns titles to these conversations so users can easily locate and revisit earlier AI interactions within the same tab.

The broader goal of the feature is to make AI tools easier to access while keeping the main messaging experience simple and uncluttered.

For now, the Meta AI tab remains limited to selected Android beta testers and is still under active development.

Although Meta has not announced an official release timeline, the company is expected to gradually expand testing if the feature performs well.

As WhatsApp continues to integrate generative AI capabilities, this dedicated tab could become a central gateway for future AI-powered features while keeping regular chats and communities easily accessible.
