Viacom 18 has made a deal with Warner Bros Discovery, wherein, the content of Warner Bros and HBO content will be streamed on JioCinema.
Additionally, JioCinema, which is currently free for users, will soon introduce fees in an effort to compete with rivals like Netflix and Amazon. Plans are anticipated to be announced soon by the streaming platform.
Warner Bros and HBO Programs Will Now Be Available at Reliance JioCinema
As per reports, the agreement will make Warner Bros. and its HBO programming available on Reliance’s JioCinema app, citing two persons with firsthand knowledge.
According to a joint statement from the firms, this is a significant milestone even if the final terms of the agreement have not been made public. Fans will again have access to well-known films and television programs including Succession, Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, and The Harry Potter series.
As we all know, following their removal from Disney Hotstar on March 31, many well-known HBO shows and films are no longer available in India.
HBO Original, Max Original, and Warner Bros Television To Premiere on JioCinema on Same Day as the US
As per reports, this means Warner Bros. won’t be able to provide the majority of its well-known titles to competing Indian streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Disney Hotstar.
According to one of the people cited by Reuters, “It’s a deep exclusive arrangement which will make JioCinema the house of Warner, HBO in India. HBO Original, Max Original and Warner Bros. Television series are set to premiere on JioCinema on the same day as the US.”
According to Warner Bros. President for India, Southeast Asia, and Korea Clement Schwebig, the partnership is a part of the studio’s commitment to the South Asian market as it works to expand the scope of its regional operations.
Significance of New Agreement
The new agreement reached by Viacom18 is significant because it will increase JioCinema’s appeal by bringing back all the popular series.
One of the sources stated that while Warner had already entered into a number of agreements with Indian streaming goliaths, this agreement will result in the unification of that collection and will contain, among other things, programming from HBO, Max, and Warner.
