India is set to introduce its first Vande Bharat sleeper trains within the next two months, according to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The minister announced that the completion work is in full swing, with technical tasks in their final stages. Manufactured by BEML Ltd in Bangalore, these sleeper trains aim to offer commuters easy mobility and various comforts, adhering to global standards.
Features of Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains
Vaishnaw highlighted that the Vande Bharat sleeper train body is constructed using high-grade austenitic stainless steel, incorporating crash-worthy elements in the crash buffers and couplers. These elements are designed to comply with stringent safety standards, ensuring the trainset materials and aggregates meet the Fire standard requirements as per EN45545 HL3 grade.
Aesthetic and Functional Design
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains have been designed with both aesthetic appeal and functionality in mind. Every aspect of the train, from the front nose cone to interior panels, seats, berths, lights, couplers, and gangways, is meticulously crafted to meet high standards. The design ensures a balance between visual appeal and practical use, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Top-Notch Interiors
Derived from the existing Vande Bharat trains, the sleeper versions will provide sleeper berths for overnight journeys. They feature best-in-class interiors with GFRP panels, automatic plug sliding passenger doors, showers with hot water in 1st AC car, ergonomically designed toilet systems, and special berths and toilets for the specially-abled. These features are intended to provide a luxurious and comfortable journey for passengers.
Coach Configuration
The prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train includes 16 coaches: 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and 1 AC first-class coach. This configuration allows the train to accommodate a total of 823 passengers, ensuring ample space and comfort for long-distance travelers.
Speed and Performance
Designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, the Vande Bharat sleeper train is poised to offer a premium alternative to the existing Rajdhani Express for long-distance travel. This high-speed capability is expected to significantly reduce travel time between major cities, making it a preferable option for many commuters.
Initial Routes and Trial Runs
Reports suggest that the initial routes for the Vande Bharat sleeper train will connect major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, as well as Delhi and Howrah. However, these routes have not been officially confirmed yet. Trial runs for the sleeper train are scheduled to begin on August 15, according to the latest reports.
